All Hail the Unsung Hero: Mom!

Queen_for_the_day_best Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her..."  ~Proverbs 31:28

I didn't really mean for my last post to be my Mother's Day post, but I suppose I said my peace about the high calling of Motherhood there.  So, I thought, in the tradition of mass emails, I'd just share a bunch of my favorite quotes about Motherhood.  After all, it is my love of pithy quotes and poignant verses that started this whole thing anyway!

My mother was the source from which I derived the guiding principles of my life.  ~John Wesley

No nation ever had a better friend  than the mother who taught her children to pray.  ~Anonymous

A famous pediatrician was asked by a mother what was the best time to put her children to bed.  He replied, "while you still have the strength."

Home should be a retreat to which a son or daughter can return in triumph or defeat, in victory or disgrace, and know they will be loved.  ~Anonymous

Something has been discovered that does the work of five men -- one mother.

God has placed the genius of women in their hearts, because the works of this genius are always works of love.  ~Lamartine

No one is poor who had a godly mother.  ~Abraham Lincoln

Mother's Covers (author unknown)

When you were small and just a touch away, I covered you in blankets against the cool night air.

But now that you are tall and out of reach, I fold my hands and cover you in prayer.

Romance fails us and so do friendships, but the relationship of Mother and Child remains indelible and indestructible -- the strongest bond upon this earth.  ~Theodor Reik

My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it.  ~Mark Twain

All that I am or hope to be I owe to my Mother.  ~Abraham Lincoln

For all my wonderful Mother friends out there, keep up the good work, for it IS good work.  Nothing you do is harder, more important or will have more impact on the future than raising good, faithful children to raise good faithful children themselves! ~JJ

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we raise, this our hymn of grateful praise! Amen!
